Evelyn discovered the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® in her hometown of Chicago, Illinois after a hiatus from her professional dance career performing with companies such as Boston Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. She rapidly embraced this system of movement which allowed her a “second career” of professional dance after injury, and had a strong desire to share this experience with others. In 2007, Evelyn was invited to relocate to New York City to study with Authorized Master Trainer Leda Franklin and work at GYROTONIC® New York at Studio Riverside. In 2009, she began to study with Juliu Horvath, the creator of GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®. Since then, she has also had the pleasure of instruction and guidance from Master Trainers Gina Muensterkoetter, Juergen Bamberger, Sebastian Plettenberg, and Erika Hassan among others.
Wanting to expand her knowledge of the human body and being driven to pursue ways of improving function in all individuals, Evelyn entered a rigorous physical therapy degree program at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and graduated in 2020 as a Doctor of Physical Therapy earning the Samuel B. Feitelberg Award for Academic and Clinical Excellence. Evelyn’s current interests involve applying GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methods to her therapeutic clients, and optimizing function in all of her clients and students using her knowledge of physical therapy and biomechanics.
“What I love most about teaching is meeting people. It's truly inspirational when a person comes to a session as their authentic self, ready for change. I've discovered great value in knowing a person's story, their movement history or any past injury, to give them proper support and guidance along their path. Then movement should be a playful way to discover what we are capable of doing. A way to not just feel better, but to be at our very best... and, thanks to Juliu, at home in our body.”
