Are you interested in learning how to become a licensed GYROTONIC® Trainer?
Every Gyrotonic Trainer starts out right where you are—falling in love with the method, session by session. The Teacher Training Program is designed to help you deepen your personal practice while learning how to guide others skillfully.
There are two in-depth teacher training programs available for those interested in teaching the GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methods. The methods are complementary, and so some people pursue training in one, while others study both. This overview is focused on training to become a Gyrotonic Trainer, but you can also learn about the process to become a Gyrokinesis Trainer on the program overview.
The GYROTONIC® Teacher Training Process
The Gyrotonic Level 1 Teacher Training Program is open to experienced Gyrotonic students. The program consists of four courses and 60 teaching hours (195 hours in total) that are taken in succession. On average, it takes a student approximately six months to a year to complete the training program.
Courses are offered at many different Gyrotonic Studio locations internationally. With the Teacher Training Course Finder tool, individuals can find dates and locations of upcoming teacher training courses.
You can find more detailed program information and costs on the Gyrotonic Level 1 Teacher Training Program page.

Gyrotonic Classes
The first step toward becoming a Gyrotonic Trainer is to become a Gyrotonic student.
The most skillful Gyrotonic Trainers are those who have spent a lot of time in the studio, taking Gyrotonic classes.
For students who don’t have access to Gyrotonic classes in their area, it is possible to take the Extended Gyrotonic Pre-Training course, which provides an additional three-day introduction to the Gyrotonic Level 1 progression exercises. For this option, students need to contact the Pre-Trainer that they want to work with and ask if they would be willing and able to offer the extra days of review included in the extended option. ,
More often, students spend one or more years taking regular classes with a licensed Gyrotonic Trainer(s) before taking the Pre-Training Course.
Where to take a class? You can search for Gyrotonic studios by location with the Gyrotonic Studio Finder tool. If there are no studios in your area, it may be necessary to travel somewhere to take classes.
Pre-Training Course
After one has spent enough time in Gyrotonic classes with a licensed Gyrotonic Trainer to experience the foundational Gyrotonic level 1 sequences and has gained a basic understanding of the Gyrotonic principles and exercises, they can take the six-day Gyrotonic Pre-Training Course.
The Pre-Training Course is the first of four courses in the Gyrotonic Level 1 Teacher Training Program. Like all Gyrotonic Courses, this course is very experiential. Almost all class time is spent learning and practicing movement sequences. The intention of this course is to prepare students for the Gyrotonic Foundation Course. In this course, students experience a progression of lessons that gradually build the skill and ability required to enter the Gyrotonic Foundation Course. This course needs to be taken between two weeks and three months before the Gyrotonic Foundation Course.
Foundation Course
After successfully completing the Pre-Training Course, students qualify to take the 12-day Gyrotonic Foundation Course. In the Foundation Course, students build on the lessons learned in the Gyrotonic Pre-Training Course and also begin to layer on a new skill- teaching those lessons to others. In the Foundation Course, students learn practical verbal and tactile teaching skills that are unique to the Gyrotonic Method.
Upon successful completion of this course, one is considered a Gyrotonic Apprentice and is granted a license that allows one to teach Gyrotonic classes. At this point, one can begin teaching clients professionally in the role of “Apprentice”. Apprentices are required to teach a minimum of 60 client hours in the 6-12 month Apprenticeship period before they take the Final Certificate Course.

Apprenticeship Course
In the six-day Gyrotonic Apprenticeship Course, Apprentices meet with a Gyrotonic Master Trainer to review and refine what they have learned up to that point. New exercises and skills are introduced in this course, and the Master Trainer will assess each student’s progress and readiness to proceed to the Final Certificate Course.
Where to take the Apprenticeship Course? You can search for Foundation Courses by date and location by using the Teacher Training Course Finder tool.
Final Certificate Course
The Gyrotonic Final Certificate Course is the final course in the Level 1 Teacher Training Program. In this course, Gyrotonic Apprentices spend three days with a Gyrotonic Master Trainer, reviewing and refining the exercises and teaching skills they have developed up to that point. New exercises and skills are also introduced. During this course, the Master Trainer assesses each student’s progress and determines if they have developed the skills and abilities required to successfully complete the program. Those Apprentices who successfully complete the course graduate from Gyrotonic Apprentice to Gyrotonic Trainer.
