About
I have been working with the stories held in the body for nearly 40 years. My journey began as a modern dancer after receiving a BFA in Dance from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington. I eventually relocated to New York City where I performed and choreographed for the next ten years. In 1994, I was exposed to the Gyrotonic Expansion System® and immediately fell in love. I quickly became an instructor, working under beloved Master Trainer Leda Franklin at Studio Riverside for the next 10 years, teaching on all five pieces of equipment. I also had the good fortune to train directly with Juliu Horvath both in private and alongside other trainers at Riverside.
I became interested in acupuncture while dancing, to heal from injuries and deepen my self awareness. I received a Master's degree in Acupuncture in 2002 from Tri-State College of Acupuncture, and soon after built a private practice in New York City. After my son, Milo, was born, we relocated to Portland where I took part in creating a wellness practice located in close-in SW Portland. I have maintained a private practice at this location since 2007, specializing in trauma-informed and orthopedic acupuncture, somatic mindfulness and therapeutic movement.
I decided to re-certify in the Gyrotonic® Foundation Level I in 2017 with Master Trainer Emma Kingston of Portland, Oregon, and after teaching for a few years at another studio, I now have the good fortune to have a gyrotonic tower in my acupuncture office, which allows me to bring these two modalities together in my work with clients. I am grateful to bring my perspective as a body worker, dancer and acupuncturist to your Gyrotonic® experience.
