About
As a teenager, despite valedictory honors, I was bound the next day for the south of France to be a potter. Having been nurtured and excelling in sport, scholarship and music/fine arts, the introduction to ballet proved a worthy distraction (- Especially when the distraction was being offered a scholarship at the Rosella Hightower International School of Danse Classique in Cannes). This led eventually to a scholarship at the Joffrey Ballet School (NYC) where a fellow student introduced me to Gyrotonic®. Regional ballet performances, Ford® modeling stints and Pre-med at Hunter College came and went, but Gyrotonic remained a constant. Energetic/Intuitive studies (Integrated Awareness®), Klein Technique® and countless meditation retreats only assisted to accentuate the potent beauties lying in wait within Juliu’s (creator) work. Becoming a Master Trainer in Gyrotonic created a significant opportunity. While doors to med-school had opened, continuing with Gyrotonic made the most sense: Not only were the means to live life fully, comfortably, and gracefully enhanced by doing this work- Teaching this work would GIVE others the TOOLS to do this for themselves. ‘Teach one to fish’, so to speak.
Teaching teachers in the Gyrokinesis® levels and all the Gyrotonic Equipment for the last 25+ years has been a tremendously rewarding adventure. Teaching in 20+ countries to a vast array of humanity has revealed beautiful things. Continuously throughout: whether injured, a docent, a professional athlete/dancer or surviving stroke, paralysis, herniations and more – where there is breath and kindly intention, coupling and moving towards harmony- movement and spirit can support one another.
The harmony of strength and softness needed as an athlete/dancer, the discernment/perceptivity needed in any intellectual/human pursuit and the emptiness and receptivity needed for inspiration/meditation/spirit- All seeds, beginning early for me, found good root in the principles of this beautiful work. To see these strong and poetic roots grow in others... it is a gift.
