Abdo Sayegh-Rodriguez
About
I'm originally from Venezuela. A dancer, choreographer, arts administrator and GYROTONIC and GYROKINESIS EXPANSION SYSTEM® trainer.
I studied dance at the Escuela Ballet-Arte and the Escuela de Ballet Teresa Carreño in Caracas-Venezuela, dancing later professionally for the Ballet Nacional de Caracas under the direction of Vicente Nebrada and the Ballet Nuevo Mundo de Caracas under the direction of Zhandra Rodríguez. In 1997, I moved to the USA to dance for Minnesota Dance Theatre, where I became Rehearsal Director and later Associate Artistic Director. In 2012, I joined TU Dance as Managing Director and later was promoted as Executive Director. I was awarded The McKnight Foundation's Artist Fellowship for Dancers (2007) and the Ordway Center 2015 Education Award for Excellence in Community Engagement. I currently serve as a Trustee (Board Chair) for Dance/USA and serve in the steering committee for the MN Arts & Culture Coalition. I hold a bachelor degree in Business Administration from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Caracas, Venezuela.
My interest in GYROTONIC® started years ago while I was recovering from a back injury. Since then, I've been taking GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® classes, and recently decided to start my journey towards the certification. I've completed the certification for both GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® and currently teach/train from my home studio, TU Dance Center and Embody Minneapolis.
