About
My journey with Gyrotonic started out of necessity in 2010, when a back injury ended my dance career and left me in chronic pain. I tried physical therapy, massage, chiropractic – but nothing helped. Then I found Gyrotonic, and for the first time since my injury I could move without increasing the pain. Six months later I was pain free.
What started as rehabilitation became a revelation: I discovered that despite years of dance training, I had barely scratched the surface of what body awareness could be. Since then I’ve been on a journey to understand the body from inside and out. I’ve learned that understanding the neuromuscular and fascial systems can help unlock our perception of our own bodies, and help us move with more efficiency and comfort.
In my teaching I aim to guide others through their own journey towards body awareness. Sometimes that means explaining things from an anatomical perspective, sometimes it requires more poetic imagery to help unlock body sensations. However we get there, the goal is always for you to directly experience the particular muscular connection or concept that we’re working on. Once you feel something, it’s really yours, and it’s easier to integrate it into your day to day activities, allowing what we work on in the studio to have an impact in the rest of your life.
