Shim Sun-mi embarked on her ballet journey at an early age, demonstrating exceptional dedication and passion for the art. While pursuing her studies in college, an ankle injury redirected her path toward ballet education. Committed to mastering classical ballet instruction, she obtained certifications in both the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Vaganova method. To further enhance her expertise, she also completed the Polestar Pilates program, a specialized training designed to optimize body conditioning for dancers.
Her career took a profound turn when she suffered a debilitating back injury while teaching ballet at a university, rendering her temporarily immobile. During her rehabilitation, she was introduced to the Gyrotonic method, which she integrated with medical treatment. This transformative experience not only restored her mobility but also deepened her commitment to movement science. Inspired to expand her knowledge, she pursued a doctoral degree in exercise physiology and exercise prescription, solidifying her expertise in the biomechanics of movement and injury prevention.
Renowned for her precise and insightful instruction, Shim Sun-mi empowers her students with a comprehensive understanding of movement, ensuring its effective application. With extensive experience spanning various movement disciplines, she has dedicated herself to the education and development of others. As a distinguished master trainer in Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis, she leads numerous certification programs, equipping professionals with the knowledge and skills to excel in their fields.
