Teacher TRaining

THE GYROTONIC® & GYROKINESIS® METHODS

About

There are two in depth teacher training programs available for those interested in teaching the Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis methods. The Gyrotonic Level 1 Teacher Training Program is available for those interested in becoming a Gyrotonic Trainer and the Gyrokinesis Level 1 Teacher Training Program is available for those interested in becoming a Gyrokinesis Trainer. After successfully completing one of the level 1 teacher training programs, Trainers continue to develop their teaching skills by taking specialized courses in the method(s) they are qualified to teach. The Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis methods are complementary. Some people choose to pursue training in one of the methods, while some study both.

getting started

The first step toward becoming a Gyrotonic or Gyrokinesis Trainer is taking classes with a certified Gyrotonic or Gyrokinesis Trainer. You can search for Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis studios and trainers offering classes in your area with our studio finder. People typically need to take ten or more Gyrotonic or Gyrokinesis sessions before they have enough experience to begin one of the level I teacher training programs. For those who want to become a Gyrotonic Trainer, but don't have access to Gyrotonic classes in their area, there is also an opportunity to take the Extended Gyrotonic Pre-Training course which provides an additional three day introduction to the Gyrotonic level I, progression exercises.

WHERE TO TAKE A COURSE

Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis teacher training courses are available worldwide. Once students have enough experience to meet the pre-requisites for the Gyrotonic Level 1 Pre-Training Course or the Gyrokinesis Level I Pre-Training Course, they can use our International Course Finder to locate a course that works with their schedule. Our international Course Finder allows students to search for teacher training by course, location, or teacher trainer, and provides the contact information needed to schedule courses directly with the course provider.

There are also opportunities to host Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis teacher training courses at your studio or facility.  Contact Gyrotonic International Headquarters at info@gyrotonic.com or 570.828.0003 for information about on-site training opportunities.

PREREQUISITES

Before enrolling in either of the level I teacher training programs, students are required to have a basic understanding of the level I exercises of the method they choose to study. People typically take at least ten Gyrotonic classes with a certified Gyrotonic Trainer before they have enough experience to begin the Gyrotonic Level I Teacher Training Program. People typically take at least ten Gyrokinesis classes with a certified Gyrokinesis Trainer before they have enough experience to begin the Gyrokinesis Level I Teacher Training Program.

Government requirements for movement professionals vary internationally. If you are interested in teaching the Gyrotonic or Gyrokinesis method professionally, you should first establish a good understanding of industry regulations in your region. For instance, in some european countries, the government requires Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis Trainers to hold either a government regulated license or academic degree in a movement or therapy related field, in addition to their Gyrotonic or Gyrokinesis Trainer certification. It is the student’s responsibility to understand the regulations specific to the region they intend to teach in, and to meet the industry requirements established by the governing bodies of that region.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

All Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis Trainers are required to renew their trademark license, and complete at least one continuing education course every two years in order to maintain their certification.
