PHYSICAL THERAPISTS
The gap between exercise and its transference into functional skill in athletic performance or rehabilitation occupies many researchers in the field of motor learning and control. With a clever design of three-dimensional patterns, dynamic breathing and teaching of postural and movement awareness, GYROTONIC and GYROKINESIS practices easily translate into smooth and efficient moves applicable to daily life, whatever the functional level of the client. Lucia Rojas, MA,PT Brooklyn, NY
In the past three years as a physical therapist, I have used the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM with people from the pediatric to the geriatric population, and with people that have a range of orthopedic and neurological conditions. In my experience with the acute and sub-acute stages, the GYROKINESIS stool work and breathing patterns increase the patients' alertness and coordination and enables them to get out of bed, walk and be discharged from the hospital sooner. For patients with neurological conditions, such as, post-stroke, TBI, Parkinson’s, neuropathy and multiple sclerosis, the system allows the them to move each of their body parts independently (for instance, right side independent of left side). At the same time they work to integrate the parts into a whole in order to regain strength, range of motion, movement patterns, coordination and to increase neuro-muscular control.
Professional dancers and athletes regain, and even increase their range and strength both preventatively and post-injury. People with frozen shoulder and rotator cuff injuries are rehabilitated with both the GYROTONER and Pulley Tower, while meniscus repairs, hip arthritis and foot injuries are helped with the Leg Extension Unit, Jumping-Stretching Board and GYROKINESIS exercises.
The therapeutic benefits of the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM are numerous. Overall the principles which underlie the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM support physical health and wellness and, therefore, GYROTONIC exercise is a brilliant adjunct to any rehabilitation clinic or physical therapy program.
